The C and F courses each have a thick string and a thin string one octave higher (C4, F4). The A and D courses are two strings tuned to the same note.

The lowest D course has a thin string one octave higher (D4). The other two courses are tuned in unison.
How to tune a bouzouki in 3 steps
- Press the microphone button and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Pluck one string and mute the other string of the course with a finger. The tuner shows the note and a needle: left is flat, right is sharp.
- Turn the tuning key until the needle stays in the centre. Tune the thick string to the note in the table and the thin octave string one octave higher. The tuner recognises every note, so it reads C4 and F4 as well.
Tips for tuning a bouzouki
- Tune one string at a time. Two strings sounding together give an unsteady reading.
- Hold the phone close to the sound hole, in a quiet room.
- Tune up to the note: if a string is sharp, loosen it a little below the note and bring it back up.
- Without a microphone, tap a note button under the menu to hear its reference tone and tune by ear.
